This weekend we will face the toughest test of our pre-season, with a clash against Chelsea in the Community Shield. It could prove to be a pace setter for the campaign to come, and the victor will take a massive confidence boost heading into 2015/16.
Arsene Wenger has never beaten a Jose Mourinho managed side before, so history isn’t exactly on our side. The Frenchman has assembled his best Arsenal side in a decade though, so if he’s ever going to better the Portuguese manager, then now could be the time.
Our history against Mourinho may not be entirely positive, but there are other stats and figures that are certainly in our favour. Courtesy of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, here are a number of facts about previous Community Shield:
We have taken part in a number of Community Shield matches in the past, and have an excellent record in the historic fixture. With five wins from eight games, our win percentage of 62.5% is matched by Manchester United (and bettered only by Everton and Leeds who featured in just one game each for a 100% record). Chelsea on the other hand, have won just three of their eight Community Shield outings, for an extremely poor win percentage of 37.5%.
