Arsenal have confirmed that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will join AS Roma on loan for the 2015/16 season, with the Polish international seeking regular first-team football ahead of the European Championships next summer.

Szczesny – who started the last campaign as our bonafide No.1 – lost his place in January to David Ospina following the infamous New Year’s Day clash at Southampton.
Since then, the 25-year-old has only appeared in our FA Cup clashes and had a solid game against Aston Villa in the final as we clinched back-to-back trophies.
However, following the arrival of Petr Cech last month, Szczesny’s future was always going to be called into question given the presence of Ospina and Emi Martinez.
Despite this being a season-long loan deal, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility to suggest that we have seen Szczesny play his last game for the club.
Arsenal transfer news
With previous examples such as Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo, both players were sent out on loan last season and have departed again this summer – one permanently and one on loan.
A lot can happen in 12 months, but Szczesny may need to produce his best efforts for Roma if he’s to convince Arsene Wenger that he can become the goalkeeper the boss envisaged.
