If there’s one thing good about the off-season, it’s that we rarely see or hear anything from Jose Mourinho. The Chelsea boss is back giving interviews however, and is seemingly already playing mind games ahead of the new season, as reported by The Independent.
The Blues lifted the Premier League trophy last season, with their fantastic start to the campaign – and our conversely shocking start – preventing us or anybody else from catching them.
They weren’t at their best in the tail end of the season, but did enough to clinch the title. Mourinho clearly took note of our success in 2015, and is looking to take the pressure off his own team, and heap it on his rivals.
“[Arsenal have] a fantastic squad with good players, fantastic goalkeeper, they are more than ready to be a title contenders,” Mourinho said.
“I think everyone of us [can win the title].
“We have five teams who will play for the title, only one will win and one of us will be playing Europa League in two years. That is the reality: five teams for one title and five teams for four Champions League positions. Only one will be champion and one in Europa league.”
He highlighted the goalkeeping position, as if signing an ex-Chelsea player was what was going to win us the title.
Mourinho may be a detestable man, but he is a good manager, and excellent at mind games. He knows that in 2015/16 Chelsea are going to be the team to beat, but wants to put the onus on us to win the title rather than his own side to lose it.
Arsenal transfer news
It has been refreshing not to have to hear the Portuguese manager’s tripe, but having to suffer through his self-obsessed drivel is a small price to pay for the imminent return of Premier League football.
