Petr Cech completed his long awaited switch to Arsenal this past Monday, with the Czech international finally having his medical and confirming his move from Chelsea (via the BBC).
The 33-year-old has since given his first interviews as an Arsenal player, and has made a rather controversial claim.
Arsenal transfer rumours
The former Chelsea shot-stopper revealed he had the chance to join us back in 2002, but issues with his work permit made things difficult.
He instead made the switch to French side Rennes, before eventually making the move to Chelsea in 2004.
The experienced keeper certainly doesn’t seem to regret his decision though, as despite just signing for us, he insists that he “didn’t really miss much” by not signing in 2002, as quoted on Arsenal Player.
He says it with a smile on his face, and it certainly seems possible that the language barrier is resulting in something is being lost in translation. It still seems like poorly chosen words from our newest Arsenal star though.
We should give him the benefit of the doubt, as he may have been suggesting that he won everything he wanted to with Chelsea.
Hopefully he can do the same with Arsenal, and help guide us to Premier League and Champions League glory.
“If I could have got the permission, maybe my story would have been a completely different story but here we are 10 or more years later, and now we can write the story again,” he continued.
