We have been credited with an interest in wantaway Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze, with the German international unsettled at the Bundesliga club with Pep Guardiola at the helm, according to The Telegraph.
The Metro claims we would have to fork out £49.6m for his services, although where they plucked that figure from is a mystery.
Germany’s World Cup hero, Gotze made the £32m (via Sky Sports) switch from Borussia Dortmund back in 2013. As the report suggests, he has fallen out with Guardiola since then, and may consequently be looking for a move abroad.
Bayern have told Gotze he needs to make up his mind (via The Telegraph), and have seemingly given their blessing for a move away from the club. This has put us on high alert, with Arsene Wenger known to be a fan of the versatile young player.
The article claims that while a deal is on the cards, it’s certainly not close to completion. It goes on to state that we may have to go right up to the wire to get a resolution, and that this deal may not go through until deadline day – if at all.
We already have a German contingent at the club, so Gotze would presumably settle right in. He isn’t exactly the type of player we’ve been crying out for – as we are well stocked in attacking midfielders – but he could certainly add something to the side.

If the price is right, then we should certainly look at the option of bringing the 23-year-old to the Emirates. Although the report claims we are also facing competition from Louis van Gaal and Manchester United. If we really do have to pay close to the £50m mark though, then United can have him.
