Arsenal sites are currently dominated with rumours of Karim Benzema’s potential switch to the Emirates, a move which looks all the more likely given the board’s recent revelation, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The Real Madrid striker has been heavily linked with us in recent weeks, and Arsene Wenger has now been given permission to make a record breaking bid in order to bring him in (via the Daily Mail).
As the Mail reports, our current record transfer is Mesut Özil – also signed from Real Madrid – who arrived at the club in 2013 after a £42.5m deal was agreed. The reported £45m we would be required to pay for Benzema’s services would break that record, while his £150,000 per week wage demands would also make him the highest paid player at the club.
With financial restrictions no longer such an issue at the club, we can afford to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City in the transfer market.

We are close to building a team capable of challenging football’s elite, and Benzema may prove to be the missing piece of the puzzle.
