There are a few positions that still need strengthening in the current Arsenal squad, but the goalkeeping spot certainly isn’t one of them. That hasn’t stopped us from being linked with a new shot-stopper however, with Olympiakos star Roberto Jimenez Gago the latest to be touted, as reported by the Metro.
We had three potential first choice keepers following the arrival of Petr Cech, althoughWojciech Szczesny and David Ospina were seemingly battling it out for a place on the bench.
It seemed ridiculous to have a player of such quality rotting away in the reserves however, so Szczesny was consequently sent out on loan to Serie A side Roma.
It’s hard to imagine Arsene Wenger opting to bring another keeper to the club, so the £4.3m (via the Metro) transfer of Roberto being touted seems unlikely to happen.
Arsenal transfer news
There is always the possibility that Ospina will leave the club this summer, with the Colombian perhaps unhappy about losing his starting spot to our sole signing so far. If that were the case however, then Szczesny’s temporary exit becomes more of a mystery.
