Our reported move for Karim Benzema unfortunately seems to be a non-starter, with the Frenchman confirming that Real Madrid is his “home” on social media.
ESPN presenter Jeinny Lizarazo is one of many journalists who claimed to have inside knowledge regarding the transfer, and insisted Benzema was Arsenal bound this summer (via the Metro).
She has backtracked now though, and has provided details of exactly why the move she was so sure was going to happen has broken down.
The tweet below shows Benzema in the Real Madrid dressing room, seemingly confirming that he won’t be moving this summer.

Lizarazo was insistent that we would be signing the 27-year-old, but has now released conversations which she claims reveal why the transfer broke down.
Her ‘source‘ seems to believe the move broke down over the method and timescale of the payment, with Arsenal preferring to pay over two or three seasons.

It seems likely that she never had any reliable information and is merely trying to backtrack now. We may never know the truth though, and will have to make our own minds up on the issue.
Arsenal transfer news
It does unfortunately seem like Benzema won’t be arriving at the Emirates, and we may well see no new arrivals before the transfer window slams shut.
