Arsenal’s breakthrough star from last season Hector Bellerin is adamant that he can continue his progression this campaign and prove that his form last year wasn’t just a purple patch, he told the Arsenal Weekly podcast.
Bellerin, after the persistent injury problems suffered by Mathieu Debuchy, was given his opportunity by Arsene Wenger and what transpired was a pleasant surprise.
As well as providing an outlet for our midfield with his marauds down the right side, Bellerin was also stable defensively and worked well in an organised back four.
And, for the former Barcelona academy graduate, this season is all about progression.

“I’ve had a few people talk about second-season syndrome but I really don’t believe in it,” Bellerin told the club’s official podcast.
“I think after a breakthrough season, what you have to do is keep going from where you left off.
“People say ‘Yeah, but people know how you play now’ but I’ve got the confidence knowing I’ve played 30 games already so I’m more confident in the games.”
Bellerin remains our first choice right-back this campaign and without being too extravagant, he has consistently delivered good performances.
The fact that Wenger immediately re-installed him after his recovery from a thigh injury, which caused him to miss the opening day defeat to West Ham United, proves how highly he’s rated by the manager.
Bellerin can still improve on his 1v1 defending and given that he may be the quickest full-back in Europe, he shouldn’t have too much trouble defending against wingers.
