Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has explained the thinking behind his infamous hashtag which has now become synonymous with the German superstar after he was the latest player chosen for the ‘Big Interview’ feature on Arsenal.com.
As we celebrated wildly following our FA Cup victory in 2014 and the subsequent end to our damaging trophy drought, Ozil screamed the phrase right into the nearest camera.
Since then, Ozil has used it as a caption in almost every social media post and also repeated the same action after we defeated Aston Villa to retain the FA Cup in May.
For the 26-year-old, he loves the idea that everything he says will be cherished by us fans.

“I really like the English culture and the sense of humour. For example after we won the FA Cup final in 2014, I shouted “ja Gunners ja” into the camera and it’s almost become a cult here,” Ozil told our official website.
“The fans have supported me so well and that’s why I do it. When I post on Instagram, I always use the hashtag #YaGunnersYa. I like that humour and find it nice.”
Ozil is easily one of the most popular members in the squad and this season has been highlighted as a huge one for him after a few inconsistent campaigns.
However, after taking part in his first pre-season since joining us in 2013, Ozil definitely has the foundation to deliver what is expected of him.
After a virtuoso performance against Crystal Palace, he may be intending to do just that.
