Arsene Wenger has reportedly made a personal phone call to Ukraine winger Andriy Yarmolenko to express his interest in him, but was rebuffed by the Dynamo Kiev man who is holding out for a move to Barcelona, Catalan paper Sport reports (via the Express).
Given that these latest reports are emanating from Barcelona, it may be that their local press are trying to let the world know that the Spanish giants are still an attractive proposition for players.
Just why Wenger would go out of his way to try and land Yarmalenko is quite baffling, considering that he plays in a position we’re definitely not short in.
With the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott currently struggling to get into the team, it would be rather odd for the boss to sign another wide man.
Arsenal transfer news
A central striker is definitely something which is lacking in our team and with our profligacy in front of goal, perhaps Wenger should focus all his energy in the remaining days of the window to try and sign a top goalscorer.
