Arsene Wenger has given us the latest injury news ahead of the start of the new season, and while he’s confirmed the latest reports regarding Jack Wilshere‘s injury, there were positive updates about Tomas Rosicky and Danny Welbeck (via Arsenal Player).
As we prepare to take on West Ham United on Sunday, it’s been revealed that Wilshere’s ankle injury is worse than first feared, and the boss confirmed that the 23-year-old will be out for ‘several weeks’ (via Arsenal.com).
“I had a bad surprise because it is a hairline crack in his fibula that makes him a few weeks out,” Wenger told our official website.
There was more encouraging news regarding our other injured duo though, after Rosicky and Welbeck missed our entire pre-season schedule with thigh and knee injuries respectively. The boss states that they’re close to a return, though are not likely to be involved this weekend.

“We have Welbeck on a progressive recovery and Rosicky on a progressive recovery,” Wenger revealed
Wenger also confirmed that Alexis Sanchez returned to training this week, and rather surprisingly failed to completely rule the Chilean out of this Sunday’s clash at the Emirates Stadium – noting that our star forward had returned in peak condition.
“Alexis is back in training, but I don’t think he will be involved on Sunday, it is a bit early maybe,” Wenger said.
“He came back in good fitness shape so that is quite positive, but I am not surprised by that because I can’t imagine him lying around for four weeks and doing nothing.”
Our squad – with the exception of Wilshere – may be back to full strength soon, which is something we’ll need if we’re to sustain a title challenge throughout the campaign.
