Young midfielder Krystian Bielik has been speaking about his first six months at Arsenal, and has praised the likes of Jack Wilshere and ex-Gunner Robert Pires for helping him settle, as reported by Arsenal.com.
The Polish starlet has thanked a number of Arsenal stars for helping him in training following his arrival, and insists his private sessions with Pires were a huge bonus.
He hasn’t quite looked ready for the first team just yet, but has impressed hugely in both midfield and defence for the U21s.
The 17-year-old seems determined to prove his quality, so we may well see him in the senior squad on a regular basis sooner rather than later.
“When I started I had individual training sessions with Robert Pires,” he said.
“He gave me a lot of advice and helped my regain my fitness because I had been out for so long.
“I also trained with Jack Wilshere who was very nice to me. In my first week I saw some of the best players in the world and that was an amazing experience. Now I see them every day, how they play on the pitch and how they train, and it really helps me.
“Playing for Arsenal is a dream but I know that I’m here to learn more.
“I want to show everybody that I’m a good player and that I can train with the first team so that one day I can prove that I can play for the first team.”
We are badly lacking in defensive midfield, with Francis Coquelin currently our only real option. Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini have shown they are no longer able to perform at the highest level – with the Frenchman’s displays in particular going drastically down hill last season – so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Bielik handed the odd chance.
Arsenal transfer news
The Capital One Cup may be a good opportunity for Arsene Wenger to hand some of the younger players a chance, so hopefully we’ll get a few glimpses of Bielik this season.
