Arsene Wenger has revealed some team news ahead of our tricky trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend, and it seems to be fairly good news.
The manager is looking for the team to bounce back from the disappointing defeat against Dinamo Zagreb this past Wednesday night, and will hope to field a full strength side to achieve that.
Aaron Ramsey and Hector Bellerin were both left out of the squad that traveled to Croatia, and both men will almost certainly be reintroduced to the squad – and you’d expect both to start as well.
The only other news is that Per Mertesacker could still miss the game, with Wenger claiming the giant German has been suffering from an illness.
“We have no injuries. Ramsey and Bellerin, who we left behind [for the trip to Zagreb], we can integrate into the squad again,” said Wenger, as quoted by talkSPORT.
“Mertesacker is still a bit short and I have to decide that today [if he will play]. He has had an illness.”
Arguably the two most notable absentees from the starting XI on Wednesday were Petr Cech and Francis Coquelin, as both were sorely missed. It seems likely that both men will start the game against Chelsea, as the pair have quickly become integral to our success.
Mertesacker’s continued absence means Gabriel should continue alongside Laurent Koscielny, which many fans will be pleased to hear. The retired German international is thought to be too slow for the Premier League by a number of fans, while a pairing of Gabriel and Koscielny offers fantastic speed and the ability to recover.
It would still be good to have the veteran defender on the bench though, as we have seen already this season that Calum Chambers is not quite ready.
Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully the changes Wenger makes this weekend work in our favour, and we are able to get the win over Jose Mourinho’s side for the second time this season.
