Theo Walcott is in confident mood after his brace as a substitute against San Marino, and is hoping to continue his fine form throughout the season. He’s been in and out of the Arsenal team following his lengthy injury layoff, but is looking to remain fit for the campaign and cement his place for both club and country.
San Marino are obviously minnows on the international stage, but it was still good to see Walcott impress. He looks a real goal threat from the right, and perhaps Arsene Wenger will see his displays as a sign he should be returned to the wing.
The England international is yet to score for Arsenal this season, although missed a couple of guilt edged chances against Newcastle in our last league game. He has been getting into the right positions, but doesn’t look totally suited to a lone striker role.
When asked about the goals he scored, Walcott highlighted the confidence boost it gave him.
“It is great for your confidence,” Walcott said, as quoted by the Mirror.
“Doesn’t matter who you are playing against. My target this year is to stay fit for the whole season and judge me from then.

“I need to play well for Arsenal and if I can continue to do that, I can get back in the [starting England] team.
“The Euros is a long time ahead. I am not even looking at that. I am looking at Tuesday and the next step is to get into the starting line-up.
“This team is blessed with talent and we should be doing better. We want to improve and do the right things. You never know how far we can go.”
Wherever he plays, Walcott needs to step up this season, as we’ve been left somewhat short in the striking department. Once a hugely promising youngster, he now needs to realise his massive potential.
Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully his brace in the Euro 2016 qualifiers opens the floodgates, and the speedster starts scoring with regularity back at the Emirates.
