Mesut Özil is already the club’s top earner, but is set to be offered a bumper new contract to keep him at the club long term, according to the Mirror.
The report states that the German is already earning £140,000 per week, but the club are looking to tie him down beyond his current deal – which will expire in 2018.
Özil has been linked with a surprising Emirates exit recently (via the Mirror), although the links to the likes of Fenerbahce have been somewhat tenuous. Arsene Wenger and the board clearly aren’t willing to take any risks though, and are looking to avoid letting him get into the final two years of his contract.
The 26-year-old hasn’t been getting the recognition he deserves since his 2013 switch to North London, and you wouldn’t be surprised if he were feeling a little unappreciated. He clearly has the manager’s faith though, and looks set to continue at the club for years to come.

He often goes unnoticed in games, but quietly goes about his job and creates numerous chances. We really miss his creativity when he’s not on the pitch, and it’s fantastic to hear that he’s next in line for a new deal.
