Jack Wilshere was expected back from his ankle injury following the conclusion of the recent international break, but could miss a further three months after his fracture failed to heal as expected, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Arsene Wenger announced the news recently, revealing that Wilshere had suffered a setback and was facing far longer on the sidelines.
“I have not seen Jack Wilshere in the last two or three days,” Wenger said (via the Mail).
“He is progressing more slowly than expected.
“I expected him to be back and available after the international break, but unfortunately he will not be available for Saturday. He had a little setback.”
The manager didn’t give a return date for the 23-year-old, but the Mail claims it is likely to be at least three months.
It’s a huge blow for Wilshere, who was gearing up for what could have been a hugely important season for him personally. He has struggled with injuries throughout his career, and now looks set to once again miss a large chunk of the campaign.
The England international has barely been able to string a handful of games together in recent seasons, and has spent far more time in the doctor’s office.
Every time he returns from injury and shows his ability, Arsenal fans start to believe again. He’s unquestionably a hugely talented midfielder, and boasts qualities that few other players have.
We can’t rely on a player with such a shocking injury record though, so we need Wilshere to get over his longstanding issues.
Arsenal transfer news
Once again we cross our fingers and hope that this lengthy layoff is the last for Wilshere, but once again we aren’t holding our breath.
