Arsene Wenger told the world following our win at Newcastle United that he expected to be busy on deadline day (via The Independent), but it seems that this will not be the case with reports suggesting Arsenal do not expect business to be conducted today, BBC broadcaster Lynsey Hooper reports.
I’m told not to read much in to Wenger being in Paris. No deals expected at #Arsenal. Other deals may trigger something but looking v quiet

Rumours have been circulating that Wenger’s presence in Paris may well see us raid Paris Saint-Germain for some of their stars (via the Daily Mail) though that looks unrealistic this late in the window.
Judging by the update from Lynsey Hooper, we are once again waiting on other clubs to make moves in order to try and capitalise on any of their outgoing players.
This reactive method with which we enter each window is slightly embarrassing when trying to convince many that we’re indeed a European superpower.

Our biggest signings in recent windows have been due to other European clubs offloading some of their players to make way for new arrivals. Alexis Sanchez arrived due to Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona, Mesut Ozil was linked with Gareth Bale’s Real Madrid deal, and Danny Welbeck arrived exactly 12 months ago to make way for Radamel Falcao.
Even Petr Cech, who joined earlier this summer, was practically shown the door by Roman Abramovich with Thibaut Courtois installed as the club’s bonafide No.1 goalkeeper.
The way we conduct our business in the transfer window needs a radical overhaul; that’s if we’re serious about winning trophies and not just establishing ourselves as a Champions League club.
