Arsene Wenger has lambasted a number of first team stars during training, criticising their desire, passion, and attitude following an abysmal performance against Olympiacos, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The Frenchman is known for the unwavering support he shows his players, and rarely criticises them openly. He looks to have really lost his rag this time though, and the report suggests the players were left in no doubt just how the manager felt about their apparent lack of commitment.
Wenger is under a huge amount of pressure at the moment, with many fans calling for his head after consecutive defeats in our opening two Champions League games. He has been castigated for his choice to field David Ospina in favour of Petr Cech, despite the hugely important nature of our clash with the Greek side.
He shouldn’t shoulder all the blame though, as the starting XIs he put out were more than capable of coming away with wins against both Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos.
Arsenal transfer news
Given Wenger’s usual calm demeanour and the way he treats his players, it’s hardly surprising that his outburst came as a shock. Maybe a kick is exactly what they need though, and hopefully it will inspire them to victory when Manchester United head to the Emirates this weekend.
