We are badly lacking in the forward department at the moment, with Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott our only options. We are reportedly plotting a move for a new striker this January, with Celta Vigo’s Nolito our top target, according to the Daily Star.
The 28-year-old has been in fine form so far this season, scoring five goals and assisting three times in his first six games. He has been getting more recognition recently, including international call ups for Spain.
We’ve been linked with an €18m (£13.3m) move for Nolito, but face competition for his signature (via the Star).
Nolito played for Barcelona B before making a move to Portugal with Benfica in 2011, where he enjoyed mixed success. He eventually joined Celta in 2013, and has been in fine goalscoring form ever since.
With a record of nearly a goal every other game, he certainly looks a quality forward. We’ve seen with the likes of Roberto Soldado however, that goals in La Liga don’t necessarily translate into goals in the Premier League.
Despite the fact that fans are calling for a new striker to arrive, Giroud and Walcott aren’t actually bad options. What we are lacking is a world class forward, not another squad player.

Arsenal transfer news
Nolito certainly looks like he’d be a decent acquisition, but we should really be targeting strikers of a higher calibre.
