Despite Theo Walcott’s impressive form, a striker is still likely to be a priority come January, and Michy Batshuayi is seemingly a top target, according to Foot Mercato 365.
The 21-year-old has been hugely impressive for Marseille since joining from Standard Liege, and has consequently attracted the attention of some top clubs. Arsene Wenger is clearly among his admirers, and the report suggests he could look to lure him away from Ligue 1.
Mercato 365 claims Marseille rejected a €30m bid from a Premier League club over the summer – thought to be Manchester City – but were unwilling to sell having already let a number of stars go.
This doesn’t seem to have deterred Wenger, though the hefty fee required to sign the pacy forward might. Batshuayi is currently Marseille’s only recognised striker, so they’d need to find a replacement before they considered selling him. He’s also contracted until 2019 (via Mercato 365), so it’s not like they are going to be forced into selling if they don’t want to.
Arsenal transfer news
Arsene Wenger is not known for spending over the odds on players unless he really has to, so this one doesn’t seem likely to happen any time soon.
