Laurent Koscielny looks like he could be out for longer than originally expected, with the Frenchman set to miss around three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury against Olympiacos, as reported by the Mirror.
A report from the Daily Mail was originally unclear about how long the centre-back would be out for, but suggested that he would miss our clash against Manchester United. Arsene Wenger has now confirmed the length of the injury though (via the Mirror), and while it certainly could have been worse than three weeks, it will still be a huge blow to be without a player of Koscielny’s ability.
The 30-year-old is unquestionably our first choice defender, although as of yet it’s unclear who his regular partner is going to be this season. Both options – Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista – will have a chance to prove their worth against Manchester United, and stake a claim for a spot when Koscielny returns.
Hopefully the three week estimate doesn’t turn into something more, and he returns sooner rather than later.
