Alexis Sanchez is set for a bumper new deal after just a single season at the club, and will reportedly be made the highest paid player at Arsenal, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The Chilean enjoyed a fantastic debut season at the club, and was our top scorer with 25 goals in all competitions. He endured a stuttering start to the new campaign following an action packed summer with the national side, but has started to look back to his best in recent weeks.
The former Barcelona star has six goals in his last three games, including a superb brace against Manchester United and a hat-trick against an in-form Leicester City side.
Alexis is already among the highest paid players at the club, having signed a £130,000 per week deal when he joined last summer. He is now set to overtake Mesut Özil as the club’s biggest earner though, with his fine form earning him a massive new deal.
Arsenal transfer news
The report claims negotiations are set to take place in the next few weeks, with the club perhaps set to begin talks following the international break. There are few players more deserving of a new contract than Alexis, and it’s important that we tie him down to a long term deal.
He limped off during our last game against Manchester United with what appeared to be a groin injury, but headed off for international duty anyway. He played the full 90 minutes – and scored a goal late on – in Chile’s 2-0 win over Brazil, and looks likely to play against Peru as well; hopefully he’ll be fully fit upon his return to the Emirates.
