Santi Cazorla has unquestionably been a massive success since his move to Arsenal, but Arsene Wenger claims bringing the Spaniard to North London was a huge gamble, as reported by Arsenal.com.
Cazorla enjoyed a fantastic debut season at the club, and really hit the ground running in the Premier League. Wenger questioned whether he had the attributes necessary to thrive in the English top flight however, with the league known for it’s physicality.
The 30-year-old has shown that he’s more than capable of holding his own though, and can give as good as he gets when necessary. His low centre of gravity can even be a positive, and his quick feet and agility help him retain the ball and work his way out of tight situations.
Wenger may have thought it was a gamble bringing Cazorla to the club, but it’s a gamble that’s more than paid off and one we’re glad he took.
“You could question whether he was physically equipped to play in the tough Premier League,” Wenger said.
“It’s true that I had that doubt, but his quality was so big that I was ready to take that gamble.

“His technical quality, his right foot, left foot, his availability, his vision and the quality of his passing made me go for it.
“I thought, ‘If there is a team in the Premier League where he has a chance to make it, it’s with us.’ That’s why I went for it.”
A team built of players like Cazorla is obviously never going to work, and Wenger has found that out the hard way unfortunately – although why he needed to see it to believe it is a mystery.
When the team has the right balance however, a player or two of Cazorla’s calibre are hugely important.
He has been one of our more consistent performers in recent times, and has once again been instrumental to our season. Hopefully he continues his fine form, and helps us push for the title this season.
Arsenal transfer news
His confidence will no doubt be buoyed after his brace for Spain against Luxembourg this past Friday evening, so let’s hope he brings that confidence back to the Emirates with him.
