Arsenal look to have agreed a deal to keep promising young midfielder Gedion Zelalem on loan with Scottish Championship side Rangers, where the teen has been impressive so far this season, as reported by the Metro.
The 18-year-old looks to have a bright future ahead of him, but needs to toughen up if he’s going to succeed in the Premier League. The rough nature of the Scottish league is the perfect place to do that, so it’s excellent news that Zelalem has been doing enough to warrant an extension.
Current Rangers boss Mark Warburton was confident the young USA international’s contract at the club would be extended, and suggested the ball was in Arsenal’s court. He did say the feedback was positive on our end though, hinting that a deal was as good as done.
“So far, we are in good shape. The feedback from Arsenal has been very positive,” he said.
“He is speaking to his family and, hopefully, we are closing to securing him.
“The current deal is until January, but, as long as everyone is happy, we will extend that.
“I have been delighted with his contribution and the last game he played for Rangers was his best so far.
“We have a great relationship with Arsenal and our job is to make sure they know their asset is being developed properly.”
Zelalem is a technically outstanding player with excellent vision, and boasts a number of qualities that make him perfect for Arsenal. It would be fantastic to see another midfielder rise through the ranks at the club, and Zelalem certainly looks capable of breaking into the first team eventually.

He’s still young, so could still bulk up significantly. But he’ll have to be quick about it, because at the moment he’s far too lightweight for the English top flight.
