Bayern Munich shot-stopper Manuel Neuer claims his side won’t be looking to do Arsenal any favours against Olympiacos, but they will be wanting to beat the Greek side to help themselves, as reported by The Evening Standard.
We need Bayern to beat Olympiacos if we are to have any hope of making it through the group stages, and even then we’d still need to get all three points off Dinamo Zagreb and then beat Olympiacos by a wide margin.
On paper this seems very doable, but one slip up from us or Bayern Munich and we can wave bye-bye to our European dreams – for this season at least.
Neuer and his teammates know full well how important their game with Olympiacos is to us, but insists that despite planning on giving it their all, they have no interest in seeing us qualify.
“We know how much our game means to the Arsenal players,” he said.
“And we will do all we can to win, but not because it would help Arsenal we want to win.”

It’s a tricky situation for Arsene Wenger, as he’s got some very difficult decisions to make. If he gives it his all and gets the win over Zagreb but Olympiacos avoid defeat against Bayern, then we’re likely to see ourselves dumped into the Europa League. Whereas if he accepts that we’re finished in Europe this season and looks to focus on the Premier League, then he is still likely to come in for some criticism for a lack of ambition.
Arsenal transfer news
The Arsenal fan base is split on this matter, which just creates more issues for Wenger; he’s likely to be damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. It’s a case of all or nothing though, as we can’t afford to be playing Thursday night games in the Europa League if we want to challenge for the title.
