Mesut Özil looks set to be rewarded for his excellent form this season, with the Arsenal star being lined up for contract extension talks, as reported by The Independent.
The playmaker has been absolutely exceptional this season, and his form has been a massive part of our Premier League success. He broke the Premier League consecutive assists record against Tottenham a little while ago, becoming the first player to assist in six consecutive games in a single Premier League season (via Sky Sports).
Özil is already the club’s highest paid player on a reported £140,000 per week (via the Daily Mail), but his current form clearly has Arsene Wenger thinking he deserves a raise.
With two and a half years still remaining on his current deal, there’s no immediate need to extend. Wenger obviously wants to tie him down long-term though, and is looking to give him a contract spanning until 2019 (via the Mail).
Arsenal transfer news
Gone are the days of Arsenal being a selling club, and we are looking to continue growing by tying our biggest stars down and making sure they aren’t poached by our rivals. There are very few clubs in the world that would turn down the chance to sign Özil, so everything must be done to ensure he remains a Gunner.
