Last Tuesday night, the director’s box at the John Smith’s Stadium was packed with scouts from many of the top Premier League clubs including Arsenal, all to watch Huddersfield Town defender Ben Chilwell play in the 2-0 win over Rotherham United.
The 19-year-old defender is on loan at Huddersfield from Premier League leaders Leicester City, where last season he was named the Foxes Academy Player of the Year.
Since joining the Terriers at the start of the current season, the promising young left-back has put in some impressive performances to keep first-choice Australian international Jason Davidson on the bench.
The teenager is revelling in the amount of first-team game time he is getting under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s best friend, David Wagner and now looks as if he may be the subject of several bids once the transfer window opens next month.
“Just playing men’s football is the main thing for me,” said Chilwell to The Yorkshire Post. “I am playing in the Championship week-in and week-out, where the winning mentality is everything.
“Playing against grown men is everything I need to improve my game. Occasionally, I feel like a boy playing in a man’s world.”

Arsenal of course already have unsung hero Nacho Monreal as their regular left-back with Kieran Gibbs in reserve. But when you look at how Hector Bellerin has taken over the right-back position from Mathieu Debuchy, Chilwell may have what it takes to do the same to 29-year-old Monreal as well.
