We needed an early goal against Olympiacos in order to calm our nerves, and after a slightly dodgy start we began to grow into the game. We started putting some great passages of play together, and Olivier Giroud finally broke the deadlock.
Mesut Özil looked as though he was going to be involved in any goals, and it was his pass that created the chance. He put a fantastic ball down the left for Aaron Ramsey, who raced into space and onto the ball. He put a superb cross into the box for Olivier Giroud, who powered a header goalwards. The angle was tight and it looked as though the keeper had it covered, but the power of the header saw him fumble it into his own net. 1-0.

We probably should have been 2-0 up by this point, with Mathieu Flamini striking the crossbar and passing up a great opportunity. A great bit of hold up play from Olivier Giroud free Joel Campbell down the right, and he burst towards the byline. He cut back for Flamini, who slipped and struck the bar – the crowd releasing a mix relieved and anguished gasps.

The worrying fact was that it was Flamini who was in the box, which meant he was not performing his defensive duties. Defence is going to be just as key as attack tonight, and if we concede now we could still be in real trouble.
