Arsene Wenger is extremely confident heading into Arsenal’s clash with Manchester City, but believes our home form will be key to any title push we’re hoping to make this season.
With Jose Mourinho being sacked (via the BBC) and all the Chelsea trolling flying around, people may have missed out on the important points; there is more to this situation than meets the eye.
With Mourinho at the helm, Chelsea always seemed to have a chance of nicking points off other title contenders, even though their own title hopes had long been dashed. The sacking of Mourinho, however, has brought about a change in that dynamic.
Sitting just one point clear of the relegation zone, Chelsea have sacked their boss and are now likely to try and appoint someone to salvage some pride and make sure they are not relegated. This arguably means that the threat of Chelsea is considerably lower for other teams.
One man who has avoided all the hooplah surrounding the goings on at Chelsea is Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger, and the classy Frenchman has even shown Chelsea some support by saying that they are too good to be relegated (via the Evening Standard). He however, seems to have taken a different view on the title challenge.
“If we win, it will boost our chances of course to go to the top,” he said, speaking ahead of his side’s crucial match against 3rd placed Manchester City (via the Metro).
“It is a massive game and when you play at home you want to win because we [are] ambitious and we feel over Christmas we play many home games and our strength and we have the chance to come out in a strong position after Christmas.”
Arsenal transfer news
Arsenal will be looking for a win to unsettle high flying Leicester, but it may not be easy. With Sergio Aguero and David Silva potentially returning, Manchester City hold a mouthwatering front line which is enough to strike fear into any defence. Wenger seems to be in confident mood though, and Arsenal fans will certainly be hoping that continues after the match and into the January transfer market.
