Speaking to Arsenal Player, Joel Campbell has expressed his belief that the Gunners are now firmly in the hunt for the Premier League title (via Arsenal.com). Arsenal head into Christmas two points behind league leaders Leicester City, but have opened up a gap between the chasing pack and could easily take top spot if the Foxes slip up against their upcoming opponents.
Campbell was speaking in the aftermath of the victory over Manchester City, in which he played a big role as Arsenal emerged 2-1 victors at the Emirates. The Costa Rica international has been enjoying an extended run in the side in the absence of Alexis Sanchez (via Goal), and seems to be growing into the team well – his performance against Man City was arguably his best ever for Arsenal.
With Sanchez expected to miss at least another month following an injury setback (via Goal), Campbell now has a chance to solidify a long term position at the Emirates. And the player seems to be intent on doing exactly that, revealing his desire to help Arsenal win the league title.
“There are games that you have to be intelligent,” Campbell said after the game (via Arsenal.com).
“We know the capacity of Manchester City. We could not give them space. We try to close gaps and to counter-attack with our forwards. City are a great opponent but we know that in this league you can lose at any stadium. It’s a very competitive league. We did a great job to win against a great opponent.
“It was a great game, we got a good result and now we have to look forward, there is still a lot of work to do. This is a big step. We are in the fight for the Premier League title. We hope to continue this winning streak. We are closer to the leaders, who are currently Leicester, and we must respect them. They are a great team who have proved a lot this season. We go step-by-step.

“The Christmas period is going to be very competitive. There are four games in 10 days and after winning the first we hope to do the same in the coming three [against Southampton, Bournemouth and Newcastle].”
Arsenal transfer news
While Leicester face tough opponents in the form of Liverpool and Manchester City over the next few games, we have a comparatively easier time of it. This should give us the opportunity to take top spot in the league heading into the second half of the season, which will put us in prime position to challenge for the title in a year where our biggest rivals have struggled to keep up.
