Speaking at the press conference ahead of Arsenal’s game against Manchester City, manager Arsene Wenger has praised the contribution of star midfielder Mesut Ozil (via Arsenal.com). The German World Cup winner has been in sensational form for the Gunners this season, notching up 13 assists in the Premier League and masterminding the team’s clinical attacking play.
This has seen the German rise to the top of the league chart for assists, and with the player showing no signs of slowing down, the manager highlighted his qualities. Ozil has often been accused of not doing enough to justify his price tag, but the player has made it clear with his performances this season that he is worth all that and more.
Wenger praised not only the player’s passing abilities, but also his mental strength, saying. “Ozil is the main provider in our team and in the league. He has 13 assists in the league. Players who can make you score are very difficult to find and have something special on the vision front and on the technical quality.
“That is what Mesut is about. But he is also about, and people forget this many times, in his way [he is] an exceptional fighter. He runs much more and covers the distances during the game.
“He has added runs into the box now. You watch how many times he’s in the box compared to what he did before. I think he has become an absolutely unbelievable player.”

Ozil has two goals to his name so far, which might not seem like much, but one needs to consider his remarkably unselfish style of play. The German is always looking out for the benefit of the team and will choose to pass if it guarantees a goal – as he showed against Aston Villa this week. This has benefited the side massively, as not only does Ozil have the capabilities to pick out magical passes, but the players in front of him are also much more confident while making runs, knowing that the ball will come to them. Let’s hope Ozil can deliver once more in the game against Manchester City, and allow us to open up a gap between us and the chasing pack ahead of Christmas.
