Arsenal fans obviously weren’t best pleased when the Champions League draw for the last 16 was announced, with Barcelona arguably the trickiest of the teams we could have been matched against.
The La Liga giants seem far more pleased with the draw though, and showed a complete lack of respect for us by cheering when the match up was announced (via the Metro).
We were apparently exactly the draw they wanted, despite the likes of Gent and PSV Eindhoven up for grabs.
“This is the draw we wanted,” a Nou Camp insider said (via the Mirror).
“We did not want to play Paris or Juve – but this is more straight-forward. We feel we have dodged a bullet.”
Barcelona may have been the toughest draw available, but we aren’t exactly pushovers. We’ve been in excellent form recently, and with the likes of Petr Cech, Alexis Sanchez, and Mesut Özil on our books we are capable of beating anyone on our day.

You have to believe that the talk coming from Barcelona is nothing more than bluster, and there would have been a huge number of opponents they would have preferred.
It would be great if after this display of disrespect we could shut them up in February, but we’ve got quite a while to wait until then. There’s months to go until then, with a January transfer window in between.
Barca may be the current holders, but the fact that nobody has retained the title since the Champions League began is a huge boost to our chances.
Arsenal transfer news
Hopefully we can beat the odds and get the win over Luis Enrique’s side, making this show of bravado seem a little silly.
