Charlie Nicholas isn’t entirely convinced about our ability to beat Olympiacos and qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League this Wednesday evening, but he claims that if one man can help us through it’s Petr Cech, as reported by Sky Sports.
The Sky Sports pundit insists that we have more than enough about us to get the required win, but has a nagging suspicion that we are going to come close but just fall short.
He’s backed us to score the goals we need, but is concerned about our defensive frailties. This is where he claims Cech comes in, and the former Arsenal star insists the Czech international will be key to our success.
“Arsenal can do it, there’s no doubt about that, but I’m not totally convinced that they will because the injury situation is a dramatic one,” Nicholas said.
“For too many years now they’ve needed the big performances and they get them but somehow fall short. I mean, how can you beat Bayern Munich and still be in this situation?
“Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming back and Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud scoring goals gives me hope. I see Arsenal scoring their two goals but I have a horrible feeling that they’ll get into a good position and then concede and go out.

“I really hope that I’m wrong and that this is where Petr Cech, who has been brilliant, pays back his transfer fee and more.”
We don’t have the best history away against Olmypiacos, and we’ve lost all three of our last few games against the Greek side. We had already qualified the last couple of times we traveled to the Karaiskakis Stadium however, which the figures don’t always show.
With the likes of Mesut Özil, Olivier Giroud, and Theo Walcott we definitely have the attacking quality to score the goals required, so we just need to be fully focused and avoid complacency.
Arsenal transfer news
We desperately want to be in the knockout rounds of the Champions League as opposed to dropping down to the Europa League, so we need to give 100% against Olympiacos tonight.
