It is not news that Arsene Wenger is a well established manager. He has been at Arsenal for nearly 20 years and his list of achievements with the club include never finishing outside the top 4 in any full season and qualifying for the Champions League Round of 16 for sixteen years in a row.
During the same period, Jose Mourinho has been a world class coach rising up from relative obscurity at Porto, and then going on to win the Champions League with them before making the jump to Chelsea. Since then Mourinho has come a long way up the managerial ladder- going on to manage Inter Milan and Real Madrid respectively.
What does a world class manager earn, one may wonder? Well if you count Arsenal’s Wenger as world class then you would be right. The Frenchman’s remuneration package of €9 million per year is third in the globe, while Jose Mourinho sat well above Wenger with his pay package around €11.5 million (via the Metro).
Now that Mourinho has been fired from Stamford Bridge, Wenger rises up the ranks to replace him as the world’s 2nd highest wage earning football manager.
The rivalry between them will definitely be missed by the Premier League and neutral fans across the globe. It is yet to be seen whether Mourinho comes back into footballing focus with a high earning job somewhere else, but for now Wenger is definitely having the last laugh. He will be hoping to add the Premier League title to his credentials and so will Arsenal.
