The transfer window will slam shut in the next few days, but Arsene Wenger is still looking to sign one more player apparently. Ukrainian publication Sport (via the Metro) claim Andriy Yarmolenko is the player set to arrive at the Emirates, and even go so far as to say “Arsenal agree £23m transfer”.
Yarmolenko has been on the verge of greatness for years, impressing for both club and country with Dynamo Kiev and Ukraine. He hasn’t quite realised his potential, but is still a top quality player.
The report suggests Kiev are desperate to hold onto the 26-year-old, but are unable to turn down our £23m bid. We’ve also apparently beaten Premier League competition to the punch, with Everton missing out on the talented star.
Although Yarmolenko has unquestionable quality, whether or not he’s good enough for Arsenal is up for debate. He seems to be the player that is well suited to being a big fish in a little pond, and becoming a cog in the Arsenal machine may not be the right fit for him.
He regularly produces moments of individual magic for Kiev, and has scored some absolute wonder goals in the past. He seems to be more of a luxury player though, and may not be content with the graft he’d be expected to do once at Arsenal.

Arsenal fans are obviously hoping to see another signing arrive before the January transfer window slams shut, but if we were to splash £23m on Yarmolenko then more than a few fans would likely be a little disappointed. There are far better players we could spend that kind of money on, and if we have to wait six months to get them then that’s what we should do.
