We all know by now that Mohamed Elneny is set to be our first January signing (if you didn’t know then you should probably venture out from under your rock occasionally), but if we needed any more confirmation, we’ve got it through Olivier Giroud, as reported by the Daily Star.
The Frenchman has dropped a huge transfer hint regarding the 23-year-old, and when the players start announcing deals you know they’re on the verge of happening.
Giroud was asked about our transfer business this winter, and let everyone know in a not-so-subtle way that Elneny would soon be an Arsenal star.
“I know that maybe we sign a player,” he said.
“An Egyptian one…”
While Arsenal fans will be pleased to hear the striker all but confirm Elneny’s switch to north London, we’re all hoping we’ll see more than one player join the club though, and hopefully the FC Basel midfielder is just the first.

Defensive midfield is obviously our top priority, as we’re badly lacking in that department. We could do with another forward and reinforcements in defence too though, so Arsene Wenger certainly can’t sit back on his laurels once this one goes through.
Arsenal transfer news
Arsenal fans have obviously been looking for another marquee signing recently, hoping for a player in the same vein of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Özil. But while Elneny certainly isn’t a big money acquisition, he looks like he may well be an underrated midfielder and exactly what we need.
