Mathieu Debuchy was nowhere to be seen in Arsenal’s match day squad against Burnley, which certainly isn’t good news for the Frenchman as far as his Arsenal career is concerned.
The 30-year-old has regularly been linked with a move away from the Emirates this January, with Aston Villa and Sunderland seemingly the favourites to land his signature (via the Metro). The fact that the experienced right-back was totally left out of the squad suggests he no longer has a place in Arsene Wenger’s plans,
He’s obviously not happy at being second choice behind Hector Bellerin, although what else can he expect after the performances he’s put in this season? Falling down the pecking order below Calum Chambers would obviously convince him even further that he has no future at the club, so our FA Cup win over Burnley may well have signalled the end for him.
Chambers himself has arguably shown that he doesn’t have a future as a right-back, so the fact that he’s preferred over Debuchy is a damning statement of the ex-Newcastle man. A loan move to Villa or Sunderland may already be in the works, and Debuchy may not be in the right state of mind at the moment. Arsene Wenger clearly has no faith in his compatriot at the moment, and you can’t expect to get game time when you don’t have the trust of your manager.
Arsenal transfer news
The transfer window is on the verge of closing, but there’s still time for an Arsenal exit for Debuchy. We could see some deadline day action, although fans will obviously be hoping to see some more additions rather than exits.
