Mohamed Elneny looks set to be our only senior signing of the January transfer window, but 17-year-old Kelechi Nwakali has all but confirmed that he’s now an Arsenal player, according to the Nigerian Tribune (via the Metro).
The Nigerian starlet has reportedly flown into London to finalise the deal, but spoke to the outlet before his departure. He confirmed that he would be making the switch to north London, and would be doing his best to break into the first team.
“I am going to Arsenal to work and try to be the best I can,” he said.
“With God anything is possible, to work hard to justify my claim for first team football.”
It’s unlikely we’ll be seeing Nwakali in the first team anytime soon, but he’s certainly a bright young talent. He was among the stars of the recent U17 World Cup, captaining his side to victory superbly.
We have a number of talented teens among our ranks at the moment, and the future is certainly looking bright. He’ll be joining the likes of Alex Iwobi and Jeff Reine-Adelaide, and all three will be battling for their chance to break into the first team this season.

Arsenal transfer news
This obviously isn’t the big money or big name signing Arsenal fans will have been hoping to see, but maybe he’ll turn out to be another shrewd Arsene Wenger signing. When young players like Raheem Sterling and Dele Alli enjoy success at other clubs you hear Arsenal fans saying things like ‘Why didn’t we sign him?’, well maybe this time we have beaten them to the punch and signed one of the next big things.
