Although it’s not necessarily a widespread view, certain sections of the Arsenal fanbase are questioning our lack of transfer activity when Chelsea look set to sign a new striker in Alexandre Pato (via the Express).
Pato may well prove the majority of us wrong and impress for the Blues, but at the moment, it’s hard to see what all the fuss is about. This is an injury prone player who struggled badly for form away from Brazil, and a player who was turned down by Harry Redknapp at Queens Park Rangers.
Redknapp has urged Chelsea not to get too excited about the signing of the Brazilian, and believes he has no place at Stamford Bridge.
“If I was a Chelsea fan, I wouldn’t be getting too excited about signing Alexandre Pato,
“They have already got Willian, Oscar and Eden Hazard — where is Pato going to play?
“They have about four or five players just like him so I don’t see where he fits into Chelsea’s team.

“I was offered Pato at QPR this time last year but we turned him down because he wasn’t what we needed at the time.
“He played against my Tottenham team when we faced AC Milan in the Champions League but seems to have faded away and ended up back in Brazil. He’s a little bit like Bojan at Stoke.
“He started off with a huge reputation as a kid but never really fulfilled his potential.
“Bojan did really well at Stoke but now he looks like he’s lost his form.”
Could we use a new striker? Yes, it would be nice. But we only really need a world class addition, a vast improvement on Olivier Giroud, not just another squad player.
The likes of Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck are capable of filling in and doing a job up front, but they obviously aren’t going to get 25 goals a season or do the same job a Karim Benzema, a Robert Lewandowski, or even a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would do.
Adding a player like Pato to the side – a bright young talent who never realised his potential – wouldn’t add a whole lot to the side, as he’s just not the quality we’re looking for.
Arsenal transfer news
With just a few days left before the transfer window slams shut, it doesn’t look like we’ll see any more additions. So it seems as though we’ll just have to make do and win the league with the players we’ve got, then strengthen in the summer to retain our title. Think positive, right?
