Arsenal fans will be delighted to hear that Real Madrid’s creative maestro Isco has been marked as available, according to a report in El Confidencial.
Having already signed Mohamed Elneny from Basel this January, Arsene Wenger has shored up his midfield options. If a player with the talent of the Spanish wonder boy were to become available to the manager though, you would expect the manager may well make a move for him.
Isco is a fairly recent addition to the Real Madrid squad, but he does not hold the ‘Galactico’ tag associated with many of the squad because he was not a world beater when Madrid signed him from Malaga. This makes it easier for the club to let him go because his marketing value and broader appeal are not on the level of Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, or even James Rodriguez.
According to the report in El Confidencial, Fiorentino Perez is more than happy to sell any player other than Gareth Bale who is central to his vision of a second ‘Galacticos’ era at the Santiago Bernabeu. This means that Perez is happy to listen to offers for the 23-year old, and Isco to Arsenal could very well be the transfer of the season. Wenger has previously swooped in on mercurial signings when they have become available – such as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez – and he has said in the past that the money to make a big signing is available after years of low spending (via ESPN).
Arsenal transfer news
Arsenal’s midfield could be in a bit of trouble come the end of this season, with a number of players already in the twilight of their careers, and veterans like Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta, and Mathieu Flamini potentially no longer having a place in the squad.
Although the signing of Elneny has calmed some nerves, the loss of three stalwarts – combined with the fact Santi Cazorla isn’t getting any younger – may well force Wenger into a move sooner or later. And if that signing were to be Isco, it would certainly be another coup by the Frenchman. With Isco in the squad Arsenal would be well and truly ready to fight for the title and do it in style. If he’s available, we expect Arsene Wenger will try his best to make Isco to Arsenal a reality.
