Arsenal may be able to call on star attacker Alexis Sanchez when they visit Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday, with Arsene Wenger revealing the Chilean has ‘an opportunity’ to be in the squad for the Premier League encounter (via Arsenal.com).
The Gunners have been missing the Chile international since he sustained a hamstring injury against Norwich City at the end of November. He did initially recovered before Christmas, only to suffer another setback that ruled him out for the festive period and half of January so far.
Alexis is still being nursed back to health by the Arsenal medical staff and Wenger will not be taking any risks to avoid any ongoing issues.
“I will be cautious now. There is an opportunity that he [Alexis] will be in the squad for Sunday,” the Arsenal boss told reporters after Wednesday’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool (via Arsenal.com). “He will have a definite test on Saturday and Friday and Saturday will be two important days for him. It is not impossible that he will be involved.”
The 27-year-old forward has been missed by the Gunners however they’ve managed to do reasonably well without him with fellow South American Joel Campbell helping to soften the blow.
Alexis remains one of Arsenal’s most important players and will be hoping to build on his nine goals this season for the club, however he needs to be 100% recovered and be physically read for the grueling second half of the season ahead.
