Mesut Özil is set to wear a revolutionary product against Chelsea this weekend, with the German international primed to wear adidas’ new line of laceless boots, as reported by The Independent.
Our record signing is gifted with arguably the best touch in football, and the way he manipulates a football is truly unbelievable. He hates the way laces often get in his way though, and has consistently been trying to find a way to minimise the effect they have on his ball control.
He believes adidas’ new boots will do exactly that, and branded them his “dream product”.
“My whole career I have tried to minimise the impact of laces on my strike and ball control,” Özil said.
“I revealed to adidas in 2014 that in the changing room I knot the laces over and over again and then tuck in the ends, that way they do not interfere with my touch. When they came to me last year with the laceless boots, it was like they have created my dream product. I cannot wait to wear them on the pitch.”

The 27-year-old is set to debut the boots this weekend against Chelsea, and will hopefully take to the pitch right from the first whistle. He missed our goalless draw with Stoke City due to a foot injury, but hopes to return for the London derby on Sunday (via London 24).
Despite Chelsea’s fall from grace, they still aren’t to be underestimated – especially given their recent (slight) resurgence. They are still flirting with relegation, but since the departure of Jose Mourinho they have looked more like their old selves.
Arsenal transfer news
We’ve already lost against them somewhat controversially once this season, but hopefully Özil can ensure that doesn’t happen again.
