Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez are both absent from Arsenal’s match day squad against Stoke City, but Arsene Wenger suggests both men will be back soon, according to the Daily Star.
The German playmaker was a surprise omission from the squad, with most expecting the Premier League’s leading assister to be starting in his usual No.10 role. A slight foot injury has kept him out of the game, but Wenger insists he’ll be back in time for our clash with Chelsea next week.
When asked whether Özil would be back to feature against Chelsea, Wenger simply replied: “Yes.”
Alexis Sanchez was the other absentee, but his exclusion from the squad was far more anticipated. The Chilean has been out of action for quite some time already, but has been back in training recently. He’s expected to return to the side very soon, but for the moment the Arsenal boss is not prepared to take a gamble on his fitness.
Both players are key to our success this season, and to be without even one of them is a real blow. So to be without both is really disappointing, and hopefully Wenger is right about how soon the pair will be back in action.

Showing that we can get three points without arguably our two best players would be a real statement of intent, and retaking (and extending) our lead at the top of the table would show we are serious about the Premier League title.
