We’re badly in need of reinforcements up front, but Arsene Wenger has repeatedly failed to secure the quality striker we need. A bid of £20m will apparently get us Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi though, and if we want him he’s ours this summer, according to the Metro.
The Argentine star has been linked with a move away from Italy in the past, but seemed happy at Inter and had no reason to leave. He’s now fallen out with current boss Roberto Mancini however (via the Metro), and is far more open to a move away from Serie A.
The report suggests the 22-year-old has already told his agent to find him a new club, and it seems north London is one potential destination. We’re facing competition for his signature though, with the Metro claiming Chelsea are also monitoring the young forward. They’ve recently brought Alexandre Pato to the club as cover, but the Brazilian is only on loan, so by the time the summer comes around they may be looking for a long-term replacement.
Arsenal transfer news
Icardi may not be of the same calibre as the likes of Karim Benzema or Robert Lewandowski, but he’s still an excellent forward. £20m may well prove a bargain for a player of such quality – especially given his age – so it all depends whether Arsene Wenger is really keen on the South American star.
