Arsenal may have a shock transfer on their hands this deadline day, with Alex Oxlade Chamberlain to Southampton being touted as a possibility by The Sun. The move would be on loan and gains credibility because Chamberlain has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal, but remains a player with loads of potential.
The winger has not scored a single goal this season other than his strike against Chelsea in the Community Shield. That goal was heralded as a new chapter in his career and it was supposed to be the stepping stone for him to move onto bigger things. However, times have changed significantly at Arsenal, with Joel Campbell sneaking up into the right wing spot ahead of Chamberlain in the past few months. And now that Alexis Sanchez has returned, even Theo Walcott is being played on the wing ahead of him.
The Ox himself has not helped matters by putting in displays which are disappointing to say the least, with his mazy dribbles ending at the corner flag or in a misplaced pass. He has been down on his luck with goals evading him and his game being questioned by all and sundry.
A loan move would definitely benefit him, although whether Arsene Wenger will be inclined to let such a promising youngster away from his watchful eye is a question for another article entirely. This has been a wasteful year for the England international, and a move to the club whose academy he graduated from might help him rediscover some of his best form.
Arsenal transfer news
Arsenal fans everywhere want him to succeed, and therefore any decision must be taken with his best interests at heart, lest one of the brightest sparks in the Arsenal armory loses its sheen.
