Arsene Wenger is concerned Alexis Sanchez may not be in the right frame of mind heading into our Champions League clash with Barcelona, and is planning to have a chat with the Chilean before the game on Tuesday night, as reported by the Daily Star.
Having spent a number of years at the Nou Camp, Wenger is worried Alexis may be a little too fired up at the prospect of facing his former side. The manager believes our star forward needs to be in the right zone, and that requires focus more than anything else.
“He will be fired up, but that doesn’t mean he will be in the right zone,” Wenger said.
“The performance zone is where you are focused and relaxed and that is what is difficult in sport.
“Sometimes when you are too focused you are not relaxed, so it’s a zone where everything looks easy and sometimes when you play against your former club you are not necessarily in that zone.”
Subconsciously Alexis may feel like he has something to prove, and will want to show his former teammates a thing or two. You always keep a bit of a bond, but that doesn’t stop you from wanting to get the better of your ex-teammates.

Alexis is a massive star at Arsenal, but he was just another name at Barcelona. Alongside the likes of Lionel Messi Alexis is considered relatively small time, so he may want to show just how good he is.
He hasn’t exactly been at his best recently, and since his return from injury he’s struggled for goals. Playing against his old side may well motivate him though, and hopefully he’s able to find the back of the net.
Arsenal transfer news
Wenger is known for the individual treatment he gives his players and his special relationship with many of them. A large part of Alexis joining the club will have been Wenger’s influence, so hopefully he can motivate him once again and get him in the right frame of mind.
