There’s some great news coming out of the Manchester United camp ahead of our Premier League clash this weekend, with both David de Gea and Chris Smalling potentially set to miss the match through injury, according to the Evening Standard.
It initially looked as though the pair would recover in time for the Premier League clash, which was an unfortunate blow for us. With Louis van Gaal ruling them out for United’s second leg Europe League clash against FC Midtjylland however, they are clearly in a race against time to be fit for their battle with us.
De Gea has been absent since their first game against the Danish side, with the Spaniard injuring himself during the warm-up. Smalling meanwhile, crashed headlong into the advertising hoarding during United’s FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury, and now faces an undetermined length of time on the sidelines.
Louis van Gaal insists he was hopeful of having both men back for the Europa League game, which suggests they may well be close to a return. Hopefully they are still out for at least another few days though, and miss this weekend’s action.
“I was hoping for [De Gea and Smalling to play], but they shall not be involved. That is certain,” van Gaal said.
De Gea and Smalling are arguably the most important members of the Red Devils’ back line, with the shot-stopper in particular saving them all too often. United would have struggled far more over the last couple of seasons if it weren’t for their goalkeeper, and a United team without him is a far different prospect.
Arsenal transfer news
United aren’t the same team they once were, but they still need to be taken seriously. They are currently ravaged by injury, and if we can get more of an advantage then we’ll certainly take it.
