Arsene Wenger is confident that Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla will be back in action soon, insisting that the pair are already back running and are now just weeks away from a return, as reported by Arsenal.com.
Wilshere has been out for the entire season after suffering an injury in training ahead of our Community Shield clash with Chelsea, while Cazorla has been out since November following our disappointing draw with Norwich.
We’ve missed both players badly, and despite seemingly being overstocked with central midfielders, there have been times this season when we’ve struggled to fill that role. Aaron Ramsey has really been the only option we’ve had occasionally, and even the Welsh engine needs a rest at times.
Thankfully, Wenger believes both men will be back soon, although not exact return date has been given.
“They are back running, they are on a fitness programme now so it means it is not a question of months anymore, it is a question of weeks for them to be back,” Wenger said.
We’ve obviously learnt to do without Wilshere over the years, as the Englishman spends more time on the sidelines than he does on the pitch. Cazorla has become a key part of our first XI though, and we’ve really missed the Spaniard.
His skill set is fairly unique, and although he doesn’t seem ideally suited to the deeper role, he has thrived alongside Francis Coquelin. His ability to keep possession and wriggle out of tight spaces is unrivaled, and the fact that he can then pick out a killer pass makes him invaluable to us.
Arsenal transfer news
Unfortunately he’s not as young as he used to be, and hopefully his lengthy spell out hasn’t had too much of an impact on him. It would be great to see both players back in action before the end of the season, and back for the Euro 2016 Championships too.
