Mesut Özil has been in phenomenal form this season so far, and has put most of Europe’s playmakers to shame with his stats and performances. He’s already created 100 chances for his Arsenal teammates in the Premier League, which is the same number as last season’s PFA Player of the Year award winner Eden Hazard managed the entire season.
100 – Mesut Özil has created 100 chances in the Premier League this season, as many as Eden Hazard did in 2014/15. Inventive.

He’s also well on his way to beating Thierry Henry’s assists record for a single season, with Özil’s 16 so far closing in on the Frenchman’s impressive 20 (via Sky Sports).
With 13 games still to go there’s plenty of time for the German to get another five assists, and hopefully he’ll start with another couple against Leicester City this weekend.
Having created the number of chances he has done so far this season, it’s a wonder he hasn’t already broken the record. He obviously needs those around him to be in form to capitalise on his creativity, and hopefully the return of Alexis Sanchez will boost Özil’s chances of smashing the record.
Arsenal transfer news
With a third of the season remaining, it would be a real shock if Özil were not to break the record. Although he has been taking more chances himself recently, rather than looking for the pass when shooting seems a better idea.
It also wouldn’t be a surprise to see the former Real Madrid man clinch the PFA Player of the Year award this season, following in the footsteps of Hazard last campaign. There were many questioning whether the Belgian really deserved it, but if we were to win the Premier League and Özil continues in his current vein of form, then it would be hard to look past him – with arguably only Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez challenging him for the award.
